Golf at the Olympics

The Olympics are taking place in Paris this week, and while we love watching golf on tour, you’ve got to admire all the sheer athleticism on display at the Olympic Games.

In the 2020 Olympics held in Tokyo, Americans Xander Schauffele and Nelly Korda both claimed Olympic Gold Medals in the men’s and women’s Golf Individual events, and golf is of course returning to the Olympics for this year too.

The Men’s golf event takes place from the 1st – 4th of August, with the women’s golf taking place on the following weekend from the 7th – 10th August.

Who's playing golf at the Olympics?

There are dozens of world-class golfers you could put forward to represent their countries in the Olympics, but there’s a specific qualifying process in place to allocate athletes.

As you can expect, qualifying to compete in golf at the Olympics is determined by ranking. The golf qualifying at this year’s Games is limited to 60 men’s and 60 women’s players as dictated by the Official World Golf Rankings.

The top 15 male and female players via World Rankings are eligible to compete, with up to a max of four players from a single country. After the top 15, the Olympic golf rankings consist of the top two eligible for each country following the world golf rankings.

As you can expect, there’s going to be some world-class talent competing for their countries. The American line up consists of Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, Nelly Korda, and Lilia Vu. Representing Great Britain are Tommy Fleetwood, Matt Fitzpatrick, Charley Hull, and Georgia Hall.

Equipment is the key to performance

Being one of the best players in the world and representing your country must be such a thrill! But no matter your ability, if you’re playing with substandard equipment, you’re not going to be reaching your potential.

Scottie Scheffler will be taking his Spider Tour X golf putter to France because he knows it will help him perform to his high standard. It’s the club that helped him win The Masters, and it’s the club that will help him chase an Olympic medal.

TaylorMade makes exceptional golf clubs, and the ones we currently have in the pro shop are at the very cutting edge of modern putter tech.
